The Life of Amenhotep III
Amenhotep III was born in the fifteenth century with wealth, fame, and fortune. He was known as Amenhotep until he became a pharaoh. His name was later changed to Amenhotep III. There aren't many dates known about him.
Amenhotep III was born in a royal palace near the Nile River in 1403. We don't know the exact date when he was born. Not many details are known about his childhood . The parents of Amenhotep III were Queen Mutemwia and the pharaoh Tuthmosis IV. His grandparents were Queen Tiaa and the great pharaoh Amnehotep II. At the time of his birth his grandfather, Amenhotep II was the pharaoh. Amenhotep III became pharaoh of Egypt at the age of 12 in 1391 B.C. He married Tiy (Tiye), the daughter of provincial officials around the time he became a pharaoh. It is believed that Queen Tiy was his favorite wife. He had six children, Akhenaten, Tuthmosis, Sitamen, Iset, Henuttaneb, and Nebetah. Amenhotep III always ignored Akhenaten. Akhenaten was never taken to any of the public ceremonies. Therefore he was never in any of the family records.
Amenhotep III was an inventive builder. He built temples and statues. He built the Temple of Amun in modern-day Luxor. Amenhotep III also built a temple for Queen Tiy to honor her. He also renovated the Temple of Karnak.
Egyptian power reached its peak during Amenhotep III's reign. He had a strong military which helped him capture the region of Nubia. He had good relations with neighbors which provided him with a "buffer zone" against distant threats. Amenhotep III died at the age of 50. His tomb was found in the Vally of the Kings and is known as KV22.
Amenhotep III was able to take on the responsibility of a pharaoh at the very young age of 12. He made his country very rich and powerful.
